Online barcode scanner FAQ

What is an online barcode scanner?

An online barcode scanner reads the encoded value in a barcode from your camera or an image without requiring a dedicated scanner app.

Which barcode formats can this scanner read?

It can read QR Code, Data Matrix, Aztec, PDF417, UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13, Code 39, Code 93, Code 128, ITF, and Codabar.

Are barcode images uploaded to a server?

No. Image and camera decoding runs locally in your browser. Code Card does not upload the barcode image or decoded value.

Why will my barcode not scan?

Include the full code and its quiet border, reduce glare, hold the camera steady, and use a sharp image with strong contrast. Damaged or tiny barcodes may not decode.

Does a successful scan verify a product?

No. A successful scan only reads the data encoded in the symbol. It does not verify a product, price, inventory record, or authenticity.
