Free PDF Editor Online

A PDF editor is a tool that changes a PDF after it was created, such as adding text, highlights, shapes, or a signature and filling form fields. This one runs entirely in your browser, so you can edit a PDF online without uploading it or creating an account.

Step 1

Open a PDF to edit

Private browser editing

Your PDF is opened, edited, and saved on this device. It is never uploaded to Code Card, and no account is needed.

  • Add text, highlights, rectangles, and a drawn or typed signature.
  • Fill existing AcroForm text fields and checkboxes.
  • Move, resize, undo, redo, then download a new PDF.
  • Existing paragraph text is not rewritten, and scanned pages are not OCRed.

How to edit a PDF

  1. 1

    Upload a PDF

Drop a PDF into the editor or choose a file. It opens in your browser and is never uploaded.

  2. 2

    Add your edits

Choose Text, Highlight, Shape, or Sign, then tap the page to place items. Drag, resize, or nudge them into position.

  3. 3

    Fill form fields (optional)

Type into the detected AcroForm text fields and tick checkboxes. Values are saved into the PDF form.

  4. 4

    Download the edited PDF

Select Download edited PDF to save a new copy with every original page and your changes.

What this editor can and cannot do

  • Adds overlays: text, highlights, outline or filled rectangles, and signatures are drawn onto the page at the exact spot you place them.
  • Fills forms: supported AcroForm text fields and checkboxes are saved into the PDF and stay editable in other PDF apps.
  • Keeps your pages: every original page, its size, and its rotation are preserved.
  • Does not rewrite text: existing paragraphs cannot be edited, scanned documents are not OCRed, and a filled rectangle hides content visually but is not a secure redaction.

FAQ

PDF editor questions

What is a PDF editor?

A PDF editor is a tool that changes a PDF after it was created, such as adding text, highlights, shapes, or a signature and filling form fields, then saving a new copy.

Is this PDF editor really free and private?

Yes. There is no account, watermark, or upload. Your PDF is opened, edited, and saved by your browser on your own device.

How do I fill and sign a PDF?

Open the PDF, type into the listed form fields or use the Text tool on pages without fields, draw or type a signature, place it on the page, and download the edited PDF.

Can I change the existing text in my PDF?

No. This editor adds new text, shapes, highlights, and signatures on top of each page and fills supported AcroForm fields. It does not rewrite existing paragraphs or OCR scanned pages.

Which PDFs cannot be edited?

Password-protected, damaged, or very large files (over 50 MB or 100 pages) cannot be opened. Dropdowns, radio buttons, and XFA forms are left unchanged.
